In my short-term experience as a EFL student and teacher in virtual and presential environments I have had the chance to experiment diverse pedagogical mediations, and here below I would try to summarize some significant ones.
Being a student:
I think the most
significant pedagogical mediation I experimented as a language student is
related to French language; I studied a degree in Foreign Languages with
emphasis in English and French, and this last one was the rock on my shoe for a
long time, luckily, I met teacher Patricia Mazeau, a French woman with an
amazing ability to write, one day during a vacation period she shared with me a
book entitled “L’etoile Errante” we would be reading the next semester, through
this meaningful book/tool I fell in love with French language, I fell in love with French words, sounds and vocabulary, I forget about my
fears when speaking and thinking in French, I and managed to approve the rest
of the French courses in the degree. In
short, literature as a pedagogical mediation became a significant tool for me
to thrive in a learning environment.
Pedagogical mediation: My French teacher providing me a book ahead of the time to read it, which became my favorite tool towards language learning.
Being an ESL teacher:
Virtually: Two years after my graduation, I started working in UNAD, and this has become a significant experience in my life being my first high profile professional role, in 2020, I experimented what a first seemed to be a problematic situation with a student who was presenting difficulties to accomplish the requirements of the course I was in charge of. To my eyes, this student was being unresponsible and whiny, but the truth, is that a problem of communication was taking place, she was not allowing me to know her difficulties, and I was not showing interest in knowing them. After a high point in this conflict and non-mediative attitude, we held a phone conversation in which she was able to open up and let me know the reasons behind her lack of active participation, and I was able to open my understanding boarders to help her out.
This was a communicative,
humanizing and pedagogical mediation that offered a learning experience.
Presential: I worked
for High School institution for three years, this was very educational and
formative experience for me as an educator. With time, I accommodated myself in
teaching practices that passionate me and my students, and culture as
pedagogical mediation was the ace up my sleeve; I enjoyed teaching through
anglophone cultural traditions, holidays and celebrations, the last one I
organized was a “Morning Tea”, an activity in which with the help of working
team, we involved aspects as the relevant background of tea in United Kingdom,
the significance of the literature piece “Alice in Wonderland” which was the
party theme, and the importance of growing plants at home for the benefit of
the planet and ourselves
Pedagogical mediation: A cultural festival in which literature, music and traditions were the teaching/learning means.
My master degree
program:
I have decided to study
a master degree program because firstly, I started feeling it was already the
time to do it, last time I was a student was seven years ago, and now I feel I
have the maturity and skills to involve myself in a learning journey again.
Secondly, feeling attached to one single dynamic or state for a long time is
not something I enjoy; therefore, I want to move forward in my professional
practice, and I think this master degree will open up new professional boarders
and expectations.

Expectations:
I truly will to learn
the most from this experience, thus, I want to carry out a constructive and
honest learning process. Since this is my first virtual educational formation
in a scale such the one of master degree represents, I expect not to waste the
chance to acquire as many significant experiences and knowledge as it is meant
to be possible. I also hope to count with the guidance of professionals with
the abilities of recognizing strengths and weaknesses in me, of encouraging my
learning desire and of offering help when in doubt or difficulty.
